□ Faith Haughey of High Point has received an M.S.E. from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.
□ Theresa Flagg of Tobaccoville has been chosen as a Roy H. Park Fellow at the UNC Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The fellowship includes full tuition and fees, health insurance, a $14,000 annual stipend, and $2,000 in research and travel funds. She will begin the master's program this fall.
Flagg worked as a freelancer reporting for The Virginian-Pilot. She earned a B.A. in philosophy from Virginia Wesleyan College.
□ Tammy Kay Phillips has graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in health promotion and a minor in psychology. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Phillips of Pfafftown, and the granddaughter of Delphine Black of Winston-Salem and the late Mr. Horace N. Black of Winston-Salem, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Phillips of Lewisville.
□ David Dean Phillips has graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College with honors in criminal justice technology. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Phillips of Pfafftown, and the grandson of Delphine Black of Winston-Salem and the late Mr. Horace N. Black of Winston-Salem, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Phillips of Lewisville.
□ Clayton Waiters of Winston Salem has earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree with high honors in business administration, and a Certificate in business administration/customer Service from Forsyth Technical Community College in the 2009 summer semester.
IN THE MILITARY
□ Air Force Senior Airman Jennifer L. Pondant is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She is a contingency operations personnel journeyman with three years of military service, and is normally assigned to Headquarters Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Pondant graduated in 1999 from North Forsyth High School, and received a bachelor's degree in 2003 from Appalachian State University. She is the daughter of Arnold and Ruth Booth of Rural Hall.
□ Air Force Airman Joshua L. Strickland has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is a 2005 graduate of Grimsley High School, and the son of Steve Strickland, Kernersville.
□ Air Force Airman Anthony M. Woodward graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is a 2004 graduate of South High School, Willoughby, Ohio, and the son of Richard Woodward of Willoughby, Ohio, and Lisa Pucci of Winston-Salem.
□ Paul J. Street has graduated from the Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.
The training provide the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, they are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve.
Street is the son of Erlinda J. Street of Clemmons.
IN SCOUTING
□ Haywood Edmundson, a member of Boy Scout Troop 910 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle project, he planned and led the creation of a memorial garden at Reynolds High School, which he dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Linda Wallace, a longtime employee of the school, and included the rehabilitation of a courtyard and the planting of more than 200 plants. Haywood has served in several leadership positions including assistant senior patrol leader, and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow for Wahissa Lodge 118.
Haywood is a senior at Reynolds High School, and the son of Haywood and Laura Edmundson of Winston-Salem.
IN SPORTS
□ Tim Kute, representing the Piedmont Plus Senior Games and the North Carolina Senior Games, won a bronze medal swimming the 100 yard I.M. in the 2009 National Senior Games held at Stanford University in California. He also placed fourth in the 50 yd. backstroke, fifth in the 200 yd. I.M., fifth in the 100 yd. breaststroke, fifth in the 200 yd. freestyle, and sixth in the 500 yd. freestyle.
Kute, along with three siblings, competed in the 2009 National Senior Games' swimming events in August. Eighty-five swimming records were set at the Games, which is the largest multisport event in the world for seniors, and other national senior athletic events.
