FORT BRAGG, N.C. - A North Carolina Army post is trying to explain why a civilian was killed in an explosion near a firing range observation point.
Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum said Monday base officials are trying to sort out what happened.
Post officials said two civilians were in the area that overlooks the range where soldiers practice firing artillery, tank shells and smaller weapons at the time of the explosion midday Friday. One was killed, and the other was unhurt.
Fort Bragg spokesmen said the people were not Army employees.
The post is home to the Army's 82nd Airborne Division and Special Operations Command.
