GREENSBORO - Wake Forest's Michael Bingham rolled to a victory in the 400-meter dash on Saturday night in the NCAA East Track Regional at N.C. A&T.
Bingham, a senior from Burlington who ran in a relay last summer for Great Britain in the Olympics, ran in 45.04 to set a region and track record. He beat Calvin Smith of Florida, who was second in 45.30.
Bingham, the ACC champion, went unbeaten this outdoor season something he said was a big goal.
"I didn't want to lose and I wanted to achieve that goal," Bingham said about remaining unbeaten heading into next month's NCAA Championships at Arkansas.
It was in turn three where Bingham started to put some daylight between Smith and in the backstretch he put it in high gear to win going away.
"I usually start out slow, but against these guys I had to make it up in a hurry," Bingham said about the eight runners in the final with five of them conference champions.
Brothers Kevin and Jonathan Borlee of Florida State were third and fourth and Darius Law of Charlotte was fifth as each qualified for the NCAA Championships.
