OWINGS MILLS, Md.

Senior Nannette Hill finished her week, as well as her college career, with an even-par 72 to lead Wake Forest to a round of 304 and a tie for 13th place on the final day of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club.

Hill came into the round at 6 over par and finished in a tie for eighth.

Hill made three birdies and three bogeys in her final round. She started with a bogey on the first hole but got it right back with a birdie on the second. A three-putt bogey at the par-3 fourth dropped her back to 1 over and that's where she stayed until a birdie on the ninth gave her an even-par front nine.

"Nannette played steady and consistent all week long and that's what you had to do on this golf course," said Coach Dianne Dailey of Wake Forest. "She just played her game and was very composed. She never got frustrated."

Hill and fellow senior Jean Chua are the fifth and sixth Deacons to have played in four consecutive NCAA Championships.

Duke made its way up the leaderboard to finish sixth overall with a 72-hole total of 1,207.

North Carolina shot a 304 in the final round for a 1,210 total to finish seventh. It was North Carolina's highest finish in school history. Its previous best was eighth place in 1989, 1992, 1993 (tie) and 1995.

Freshman Allie White led the Tar Heels in the final round, shooting a 1-under 71. White tied for 16th with a 10-over 298. Senior Sydney Crane and freshman Catherine O¹Donnell both carded 5-over 77s. Crane finished with a 299 and tied for 21st, while O'Donnell shot a 306 and tied for 52nd.

Arizona State topped the 24-team field, winning the team title for the first time since 1998.

The Sun Devils fired a 3-over 291 in the final round for a 30-over 1,182 total. UCLA edged Southern Cal by one stroke for second place.

UCLA shot a 297 yesterday to finish with a 1,190 total, while Southern Cal shot a 297 for an 1,191 total.

Oklahoma State finished in fourth place at 1,199 while Denver placed fifth at 1,206 and Duke finished sixth at 1,207, three strokes ahead of North Carolina. Virginia finished eighth at 1,212 and Pepperdine finished ninth at 1,213.

Maria Hernandez of Purdue shot a 1-under 71 to edge Southern California's Jennifer Song by one stroke for the individual title.

Hernandez had a 1-over 289 for four rounds while Song had a 2-over 290. Pernilla Lindberg of Oklahoma State shot a 3-under 69 for a 291 total to finish third while Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Arizona State¹s Azahara Munoz tied for fourth place at 293.

"I started feeling kind of like the sophomore- and junior-year Amanda," said Blumenherst. "I was hitting the ball straight, which was great and a nice change. I was also hitting most of the fairways, which makes golf a little bit easier. I had a few putts fall in, which was good. I would have liked to finish better, but a one-under par is not to shabby."

For the second straight day, Blumenherst birdied the opening hole and was firing at the greens all afternoon. She rolled in a 10-footer on No. 10, but gave a stroke back on the 13th hole as she suffered a three-putt bogey. Blumenherst parred the next three holes before draining a seven-footer for birdie on the 454-yard, par five 17th to move back to 1-under. On the next hole, she came up short of the green and couldn't get up and down as she made the turn at even-par 36.
