COLLEGE STATION, TX. - No. 18-ranked Wake Forest saw its NCAA Tournament run end in the Sweet 16, as the Deacons fell to No. 6-ranked Baylor 4-1 at the George P. Mitchell Center at Texas A&M yesterday.

Baylor (26-5) advances to the NCAA quarterfinals to face No. 3-ranked Ohio State.

Making its second NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in the past three seasons, and just its second in program history, Wake Forest (22-10) narrowly lost the doubles point and then put up a hard fight in singles before falling to a Baylor team that was making its eighth-straight Sweet 16 appearance.

Baylor opened the match by stealing the doubles point from Wake Forest with a late rally.

The Deacons duo of Cory Parr and Steven Forman got an 8-3 win over the team of David Galic and Jordan Rux at No. 1 doubles.

However, the Bears took the No. 2 doubles match, as Maros Horny and Denes Lukacs defeated Carlos Salmon and Iain Atkinson, 8-3.

Wake Forest tried to take the doubles point with a win at No. 3, but Baylor rallied late for the win. Jonathan Wolff and David Hopkins held a 7-5 lead before Julian Bley and Dominik Mueller reeled off four straight points for a 9-7 victory, clinching the doubles point for the Bears.

In singles, Wake Forest managed a win at the No. 5 spot, but Baylor picked up victories at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 to win the match.

Both unfinished matches, at No. 2 and No. 3, were tied at one set apiece when Baylor clinched its victory.

At No. 2, Forman dropped the first set but battled back to take the second against Rux. At No. 3, Wolff won the first set and fell in the second against Bley.

While Wake Forest's team season is in the books, Parr and Forman are set to compete in the NCAA singles and doubles tournaments next weekend in College Station.

Parr will play in the singles tournament beginning on May 20 and then team with Forman in the doubles tournament starting on May 21.

In other NCAA tennis matches held at Texas A&M yesterday, top-ranked and undefeated Virginia beat No. 16 Florida State for the third time this season, this time in the Sweet 16 by the score of 4-2.

The Cavaliers (32-0) advanced to the quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive season. They will play the eighth-seed USC at 1 p.m. Saturday.
