Forsyth County authorities have charged a man in connection with two home-invasion robberies that occurred Wednesday morning in northern Forsyth County.
Just before 4 a.m., Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies tried to stop a car in connection with a string of overnight break-ins in the area, said Forsyth County Sheriff's Maj. Brad Stanley. Deputies chased the vehicle on Reynolda Road to just south of Hauser Drive, where the car stopped and a man fled, Stanley said. The car was stolen, Stanley said.
A female occupant in the car was detained but has not been charged, Stanley said. He would not identify her.
Officers closed the northbound lane of the road for about two hours during the investigation. The road was re-opened about 6:30.
About 8:40 a.m., a man broke into a home in the 4900 block of Ellen Avenue, off of Reynolda Road in a neighborhood not far from where the man had fled from the stolen car. During the robbery, the man took the victim's gun and car, a Lincoln Zephyr.
About 20 minutes later, a man with a gun robbed a person in their home in the 1500 block of Mizpah Church Road. Stanley said he did not know what, if anything, was taken during the robbery.
Stanley said it is too early in the investigation to comment on whether the robberies and the chase that occurred earlier on Reynolda Road are connected.
No one was injured in either robbery.
A short time after the robbery a deputy in Rural Hall spotted a Lincoln Zephyr and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused and sped away on northbound U.S. 52. The driver wrecked after exiting the highway at Westinghouse Road.
Just before 9 a.m., a home-invasion robbery occurred, also in northern Forsyth County, Stanley said. The robber stole a gun and the victim's car, a Lincoln Zephyr.
Officers spotted the car in Rural Hall and chased the driver north on U.S. 52. The driver crashed shortly after exiting at Westinghouse Drive, Stanley said.
The driver, who was not injured, was taken into custody.
Norman Kerr, 46, is charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the home invasion robberies, Stanley said.
He is also charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and larceny of a firearm.
Kerr does not have a permanent address but has lived in the northern Forsyth area in the past, Stanley said.
Kerr is being held in the Forsyth County jail under a $50,000 bond.
