Deputies arrested a Forsyth County man on charges connected to the stabbing of another man early yesterday morning.

Adam Edward Wooten, 22, of 2301 Palo Verde Drive in Pfafftown was charged with one count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, Forsyth County sheriff's officials said. Wooten was being held last night in the Forsyth County jail. His bond is set at $10,000.

Deputies accused Wooten of stabbing Robert Victor Hamilton, 30, of Winston-Salem several times after the two started fighting during a party at a residence on Spicewood Drive in the northwestern corner of the county.

Hamilton was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for treatment. The wounds did not appear to be life threatening, deputies said.

Authorities say girl fell asleep on tracks before train came

KINSTON -- Investigators think a 13-year-old girl fell asleep on the tracks before she was run over and killed by a train in Jones County.

District Attorney Dewey Hudson said that Damaris Guzman and her cousin ran away from home Wednesday, then got tired and went to sleep on the tracks not far from Kinston.

The cousin suffered severe injuries and remains in the hospital.

Hudson says he had no idea why the teens fell asleep on the tracks and didn't wake up as the train approached.

Authorities say the train operator did not see the teens, who were found about an hour after they were struck.

Grand jury indicts driver in wreck that killed groom

WHITEVILLE -- A grand jury indicted a North Carolina man on three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of a groom and two others in a wreck less than an hour before the wedding.

John Kelley, 43, of Whiteville was first charged with driving while impaired in the wreck April 18 on N.C. 214.

Troopers said that Kelley's Chrysler Sebring convertible drifted into the opposite lane of the two-lane highway, striking a Honda Prelude head-on.

Killed in the wreck were the groom, Brandon Tedder, 23; the best man, Brandon Mintz, 19; and a groomsman and Tedder's brother, Daniel Sykes, 13.
