Kernersville officials OK Sheetz convenience store

KERNERSVILLE -- A Sheetz convenience store has been approved for North Main Street.
The town's board of aldermen approved the rezoning Monday night, allowing the opening of the store, which will employ 40 people when it opens next year.
The aldermen voted 4-1 to approve the project. Alderman Keith Mason opposed it, saying he was concerned that the store would generate more traffic.
Mason said yesterday that it is uncertain that the N.C. Department of Transportation would approve a traffic signal for the intersection of North Main and Gralin streets.
Pat Ivey, a DOT division engineer for Forsyth County, said that traffic light is warranted for that intersection. Glenn Hart, the owner of the 1.44 acres where the store would be built, said he will pay for the traffic signal.
