Fire destroys house on Bethania-Rural Hall Road

Investigators still don't know what caused a fire that destroyed a home in the 1500 block of Bethania-Rural Hall Road.
A neighbor reported the fire just before 4 a.m. , said District Fire Chief Steve Williams. By the time firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the roof and windows. The resident of the home was out of town, which may explain how the fire was able to spread so extensively throughout the house before it was noticed, Williams said.
There were no injuries.
The fire caused an estimated $214,000 damage, Williams said.
Authorities closed a section of Bethania-Rural Hall Road as firefighters worked to put out the fire. The road re-opened about 8:30 a.m.
The fire's cause had not been determined this afternoon, said Winston-Salem Fire Marshall Robert Owens.
