Man dies in Wilkes County crash

A Wilkes County man died in a crash Monday night, authorities said this morning.
The crash occurred on Austin-Traphill Road north of Ronda. Brent Russell Barnes, 33, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., was driving the SUV south when he went off the right side of the road. The car struck a ditch and overturned, crashing through a fence, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
A passenger in the SUV, William Henry Joines, 63, of Traphill, died in the crash, the patrol said.
Barnes was taken to Wilkes Regional Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.
The investigation is continuing, the highway patrol said.
