Bishop McGuinness kept alive its bid for a fourth straight NCHSAA 1-A girls basketball championship last night with a 54-29 win over Robbinsville in the Western Regional semifinals in Greensboro.
East Surry also won last night, defeating Hiwassee Dam 52-36 behind 16 points from Courtney Simmons. East pulled away with a 20-5 run in the fourth quarter.
McGuinness (27-4) and East Surry (26-5) will play for the regional title and a berth in next weekend's Class 1-A state final at noon Saturday at UNC Greensboro's Fleming Gym.
It will be the fourth game this season between the Northwest Conference rivals. McGuinness won the first three.
McGuinness is trying to become the third girls team in NCHSAA history to win four straight state championships.
