Media General adds former Tribune Co. exec to board

RICHMOND - The board of directors of Media General Inc. said Wednesday that it has appointed Dennis FitzSimons -- the former chairman, chief executive and president of the Tribune Co. -- to its board.
With the addition of FitzSimons, the board has expanded to 10 members. He will serve on the board's audit committee.
FitzSimons stepped down from his duties at Tribune in December 2007 upon completing the sale of the company to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan and Sam Zell. He served as president for more than six years, chief executive for nearly five years and chairman for nearly four years.
He is chairman and director of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, one of the largest charitable trusts in the United States.
