BB&T board elects Skains of Piedmont Natural Gas

The board of directors of BB&T Corp. has elected Tom Skains, the chairman and chief executive of Piedmont Natural Gas, to its board.
Skains, 53, also serves as 2009 chairman of the American Gas Association, which represents more than 200 local utility companies.
He is the first addition to BB&T's 18-member board since Tommy Thompson, the president of Thompson Homes of Owensboro, Ky., was elected last year.
"Tom's personal and business values are very closely aligned with our BB&T core values, which guide everything we do as a company," said John Allison, the chairman of the bank.
