■ Brad Pitt and Steven Soderbergh's baseball tale Moneyball has been benched just days before the start of shooting. Sony pulled the plug late last week after Soderbergh turned in a rewritten script substantially different than an earlier draft by screenwriter Steven Zaillian. That's according to a source close to the production who spoke on condition of anonymity. The script is based on Michael Lewis' book Moneyball, about general manager Billy Beane of the Oakland A's.

■ Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault on pop star Rihanna. Brown entered his plea before a preliminary hearing was scheduled to start yesterday in Los Angeles. Brown's alleged victim, Rihanna, had been on standby to testify yesterday. Brown's attorney said that the deal includes five years of supervised probation and six months of community labor. The judge expressed some concerns because Brown is not a California resident, but it appears that Brown will be allowed to do his community service in his home state of Virginia. He'll have to return to California for updates every three months.
