Q. I was given a set of natural-gas logs. When I checked into using them, I was told that the certification tags were missing, and I'd need them. I would really like to use the logs. What can I do? -- L.B.
A. Gas logs must be inspected after installation and before gas can be supplied to them. According to the City of Winston-Salem's Inspections office, the N.C. Gas Code requires that gas logs have a permanent label attached by the manufacturer with information about the appliance and the testing agency that lists the appliance. Along with the label information, inspectors need the manufacturer's installation instructions. The label ensures that the installation instructions go with a particular set of logs. Look for a brand name, serial number and other identifying information, and contact the logs' manufacturer. Someone there may be able to help.
