Book Signing: Floyd Griffin will sign copies of his autobiography, Legacy to Legend: Winners Make It Happen, at the reception for the Clarence "Big House" Gaines Unsung Hero Scholarship Awards weekend, starting at 7 p.m. at Embassy Suites. He will also sign books at the awards gala, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Embassy Suites. Griffin taught military science at Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University during the '90s.

Ladies Night Out: Tiffany Gibson will speak on women's health issues during this women-only night from 8:30 to midnight at the YMCA, 385 Hanes Mill Road. Other activities will include yoga, Zumba, massages, tai chi and African dance. Admission is $6. For information, call Lori Lennon at 661-1093.

Fundraiser: A yard sale, auction and bake sale will be held from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Uwharrie Baptist Church, 5891 Uwharrie Road, Archdale. It will raise money for treatment for a 7-year-old with autism and other medical issues. For information, call Teresa Brown at 431-2432.

Volunteer Training: Exchange/SCAN will hold a Child Abuse Prevention Workshop for potential volunteers for the Parent Aide and Welcome Baby programs. It will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20, and 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 22 and 23. There is a $10 fee for supplies. To register, call 748-9028.

Pet Adoption Fair: Animal Welfare of Surry will hold a pet adoption fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at PetSense in Mount Airy. It is also accepting donations of items for its yard sale. For information, call 786-5256.

Monday

Silent Auction: The YWCA at 1201 Glade St. will hold a silent auction of such items as antique pottery and glassware, gift baskets, restaurant gift cards, etc., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 22 through 24. Proceeds will benefit the Y's programs.

Talent Competition: June 22 is the registration deadline for Little Miss Triad, a talent competition for girls ages 5 to 10 presented by the Community Theatre of Greensboro. The cost is $10. Registration forms are available online at www.ctgso.org; for more information, call 333-7470.

Tuesday

Cutlery Club: The June meeting of the Tar Heel Cutlery Club will begin with a swap meet at 6:30 p.m. at Miller Park Recreation Center, 400 Leisure Lane. The regular meeting will follow. For more information, call 924-4774.

Coming Up

Triad Park Nature Explorers: Triad Park, 9652 E. Mountain St., Kernersville, will hold programs on three Wednesdays in July that will use hikes, crafts and activities to introduce children to nature. The programs, for ages 7 to 10, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday mornings. The topic July 15 will be Bugs, Butterflies, Flowers and Trees; the topic on July 22 will be Wildlife of the Forest: Birds and Mammals; and the topic July 29 will be Snakes, Frogs, Fish and Water.
