Q. I am on disability. Do you know of any church or community organization that will assist me in repairing my car? I have missed many doctors' appointments because my ride did not show up. I am in dire need. -- L.S.
A.SAM is not aware of any program that assists with car repairs except Ways to Work, a Family Services program that provides small, low-interest loans for car purchases and repairs specifically to those who need reliable transportation to hold a job.
You might find a dependable ride, though, by calling Firstline, a local human-service information and referral program, at 703-3000.
Firstline's Web site, www.firstline.ws, lists several organizations that provide transportation to those in need, including Ardmore United Methodist Church, the Shepherd's Center's Faith in Action Care Program and Trans-AID.
