Winston-Salem police have arrested a woman on charges that she fatally stabbed a man this morning at Sunrise Towers on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Mildred Naomi Howard, 47, of 2921-B New Walkertown Road, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tommy Lee Ervin, 68.
Ervin was found stabbed inside his apartment about 10:30 this morning. Police said they arrested Howard without incident after finding her outside her apartment.
Ervin and Howard had an argument over money, which then led to the stabbing, said Capt. David Clayton.
Clayton said police believe the stabbing happened Monday night. A social worker found Ervin this morning and called police.
Sunrise Towers is a large public-housing building near shopping centers on New Walkertown and Martin Luther King. The homicide is the city's 7th this year.
Winston-Salem police also served a warrant this afternoon on a man in connection with the death of Michah Gibson Jr. a 1-year-old who died at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro in October 2007. Police determined last year that the injuries that caused his death happened in Winston-Salem.
Edward Matthew Montrell, 26, was arrested several days ago in Louisiana. Further details about his arrest were not available. Montrell waived his right to an extradition hearing and was returned to Forsyth County today.
