Finger-licking Lebanese-centric sandwiches, salads and sides. Stick to the menu's "Old Country" choices, such as fried cauliflower, tawook, shawarma, and moujudara (savory lentils laced with a touch of sweet cinnamon and caramelized onions).

Co-owner and pitmaster Mark Little insists that his smoked ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket aren't barbecue, but they are related to North Carolina's most famous meat. Related but different. And maybe even a little better than some.
Ombu
615 St. George Square (off of Hanes Mall Boulevard).
Phone: 293-4346. $$$. ABC.NS.

Reviewed Oct. 30, 2008.
"Wood Fired Fusion" is Ombu's tagline, but that seems to invite rambling all over the globe. The menu is ambitious, as is everything in this stunning new restaurant. The list ranges from saffron lobster bisque to pizzas dressed with garlic cream.

Charleston comes to the Yadkin Valley. Beginnings and endings are highlights here -- lamb carpaccio and celestial pimento cheese to start, ginger-molasses ice cream, star anise creme brulee and marshmallows that taste like root beer to end.
Giacomo's
2109 New Garden Road, Greensboro.
Phone: 282-2855. $. NS.
An Italian-food lover's dream, this deli makes its own salamis, sopressata and fresh sausages, then turns them into excellent sandwiches dripping with marinated vegetables and fresh mozzarella.
Blue Ridge Ice Creams
135 S. Stratford Road.
Phone: 724-5454. $. NS.
It's hard to resist Blue Ridge's bevy of fun flavors, which extend to their gelato case, too (honey-lavender and strawberry balsamic among them). My favorites? The chocolate truffle is deep, dark and not too sweet, and lemon yogurt-flavored gelato is zippy.
La Perlita
1001 Waughtown St.
Phone: 788-6888. $. NS.
One of the best cheap eats in town is this little restaurant off Waughtown Street. It's a combination cafe and butcher shop, and its rotisserie-chicken meals are a steal. Wrap the succulent meat in a hot corn tortilla, then shower it with zippy salsa verde.
Firebirds
1215 Creekshire Way (the Shoppes at Little Creek).
Phone: 659-3973. $$-$$$$. ABC.NS.
A mainly Southeastern chain, Firebirds jumps on the smoky fire-grilled bandwagon with steaks, fish and chicken and a Southwestern and Rock Mountain edge. The sesame-crusted salmon is superb and so are the salads.
Ollie's Bakery
300 S. Marshall St.
Phone: 727-0404. $. NS.
Does Ollie's technically count as a restaurant? No. Does it mean that you shouldn't go there and try every type of deliciously crafted foccacia, pain au chocolat, bread, broiche, bun, brownie, cookie, cake and tart possible? No.
Hutch & Harris Pub
424 W. Fourth St.
Phone: 721-1336. $$-$$$. ABC.S/NS.

Reviewed April 3, 2008.
Better-than-average bar food and a welcoming outdoor patio with wide umbrellas. Try the crab cakes and the Bayaldi sandwich, a lusty mix of roasted vegetables, goat cheese, olives and pine nuts in hot flatbread.
