□ The Midway Pirates are the new 2009 Davidson County champions in the Babe Ruth Little League. After entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed, the Pirates took the championship after defeating the No. 1 Welcome Squires at Davidson-Townsend field in Lexington last month.
□ The Triad Titans 17U basketball team has won the USSSA D3 State Championship for 2009. The team also finished second in the USSSA D3 National Championship. The head coach for the Titans is David Doss, and Jonathan Ruble is the assistant coach.
□ Rebecca Stone-Danahy, an art teacher at Forsyth Country Day School, has been selected by the National Art Education Association to receive the N.C. Art Educator of the Year Award. The award recognizes an outstanding member from each state whose service and contribution to art education merit acclaim.
□ Austin Chunn has been accepted to Harding University in Arkansas beginning in the fall of 2009. He is a graduate of Calvary Baptist Day School, and the son of Brian and Vicki Chunn of Winston-Salem.
□ Jenifer Queen of Winston-Salem, was named to 2009 spring dean's list at Harding University in Arkansas. She is a senior majoring in Spanish.
□ Catherine Nielson was named to the spring 2009 dean's list at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, and has also graduated with a bachelor of arts in communication studies and Spanish. She is a 2005 graduate of Wesleyan Christian Academy, and the she is the daughter of Donald and Patricia Nielson of Winston-Salem.

The Martin Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship that is renewable each year for a $10,000 fou- year scholarship. It was created in memory of Albert Martin and Jessie Dickson Martin of Booneville School.

□ Airman Christopher C. Boissey has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and has also earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Vicki Boissey of King and a 2003 graduate of West Stokes High School.
□ Seaman Robert M. Kerlin recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Virginia M. and Warren W. Kerlin of Mocksville, and a 2005 graduate of Calvary Baptist Day High School in Winston Salem.
□ David Stephen Mathis, a member of Boy Scout Troop 942 at Calvary Baptist Church, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. For his project, David led a team of Scouts and volunteers to construct an amphitheater at Meeriwood Christian Camp. He received donations from various individuals and churches, and a discount on building materials from Lowe's Home Improvement.
David has served in many leadership positions in his troop, including senior patrol leader, and he is a member of the Order of the Arrow for Wahissa Lodge 118. He is the son of Steve and Ruth Mathis of Winston-Salem and a graduate of Reagan High School.
