Authorities identified today the man whose body was found in a house in northern Forsyth County last night.
Dwight Alan Sluder, 48, of 9944 Baux Mountain Road died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said. Investigators are treating Sluder's death as a homicide.
Maj. Brad Stanley, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said that deputies went to the home after being notified by EMS workers.
"We are investigating all possibilities and any information that is given to us," Stanley said. "We have people who we are following up on."
Records show that Sluder is the owner of the home. Sheriff Bill Schatzman said the victim appeared to live in the home.
Sluder's name and Baux Mountain Road address appear in a 2006 database of confirmed gang members, identified by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office as being affiliated with the Hells Angels.
Schatzman declined to discuss any possible links to the Hells Angels.
"We are not ruling out any associations at this point," Stanley said.
Federal authorities are involved in the case because investigators have developed some out-of-state leads, Schatzman said, declining to elaborate.
A mobile command unit was set up near the home last night. This morning, the home was being guarded by two deputies.
The home is in the 9900 block of Baux Mountain Road near the Stokes County line. Investigators obtained a search warrant overnight to search the home, Stanley said.
Hal Mendenhall lives next door to the home. He said the man has lived there for about 12 years. He said the man usually keeps to himself but is friendly and would do anything to help a neighbor.
"You couldn't ask for a better neighbor," Mendenhall said.
Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office at 336-727-2112 or Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
