David Schildkret has been named the interim artistic director of the Piedmont Chamber Singers.
He will serve in that post during the 2009-10 season, replacing William Osborne.
Schildkret, the former music dean at Salem College, now teaches at Arizona State University. He will be able to lead the singers next season because he is on sabbatical from Arizona State and is serving as a visiting scholar at Salem College.
Auditions for new singers will be Aug. 22. To reserve an audition time, call 722-4022, or e-mail manager@piedmontchambersingers.org.
The singers' programming for next season will include Handel's Coronation Anthems, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Charpentier's Midnight Mass, traditional spirituals and other Americana music.
