I am writing in response to the June 26 letter "Out of touch." This letter indicated that Winston-Salem City Councilman Dan Besse is out of touch with his constituents. As president of the Coventry Oaks Homeowners Association, I have had the opportunity to have dealings on several occasions with Besse. I am also very involved with state politics, therefore I feel very qualified to know the difference between elected officials.
I have never met Besse nor spoken with him in person, but I can tell you that he has responded immediately to every issue and e-mail that I have ever brought to his attention. I further applaud the decision of the city council to see the ballpark project to completion. What else would we do now -- leave the eyesore there forever? That would help the image of Winston-Salem.
I strongly support Dan Besse in his comments about the ballpark and in the decisions that I have witnessed for the past two years.

I am building a Philosopher's Stone and a perpetual-motion machine. I need a loan of $27.7 million to bring them to market, but promise to pay the city back with interest.
Since I am going to pay the city back, these loans are "self-funding" and will not affect the taxpayer.
I wish to call a special city council meeting on July 3 and have the money approved the following Wednesday.

As a taxpayer and senior citizen of Forsyth County, I object to any Beach Plan that uses my insurance company and my tax money to rebuild any beach property ("Plan would shift rebuilding cost at beach," June 24). We pay enough of those property bills by paying for rentals when staying at the beach.
Those properties that will succumb to the rising ocean should not be rebuilt when destroyed by nature. It is a lost cause to expect the citizens to pay for homeowners who build so foolishly. Please send word to Raleigh to spend our money wisely.

Two questions about the ballpark that I have not seen answers to:
1. Who has first claim on the ballpark when the development company goes bankrupt?
2. Will the city accept smaller annual payments when the development company cannot make full payments or will it force bankruptcy?
I believe these questions should be answered.
