A medical examiner ruled out foul play yesterday as the cause of death of a Winston-Salem man whose body was found off Peters Creek Parkway Monday, authorities said.

The medical examiner found no sign of injury to Jason Edward Perry, 34, of 4085 Village Park Court, police said. A jogger discovered Perry's body in the underbrush next to the shoulder of Peters Creek Parkway about 2 p.m. and called police.

Perry lived in an apartment complex about a half–mile from where his body was found. His body was taken to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

It will be several weeks before the final autopsy report is completed, police said.

Two men killed in drive-by shooting in Greenville

GREENVILLE -- Police say that two men were killed in a drive-by shooting that followed a dispute at a bar about a block from the East Carolina University campus.

The Greenville Police Department said that the shooting happened about 2 a.m. yesterday after a dispute at The Other Place bar in downtown Greenville.

Police said that one of the men killed was an ECU student, and the other managed a business on the street. The men were struck by bullets fired from a white sedan. Police didn't immediately identify either man.

Multiple media outlets reported that police also said that the victims were believed to have been innocent bystanders.

Deaths of five women found near Rocky Mount under probe

BATTLEBORO -- State investigators are now involved in the probe of the deaths of five women whose bodies have been found in the same area near Rocky Mount in the past four years.

The remains of a fifth body were found Monday in a wooded area. The bodies have been discovered since 2005, and four of the women were black. Investigators believe that the remains found Monday also belonged to a black woman.

Police say that all five cases are unsolved.

The district attorney and the Rocky Mount Police Department met yesterday to discuss the investigation. The State Bureau of Investigation is also involved.

Commercial fisherman finds body of missing swimmer

CURRITUCK -- The body of a woman who disappeared while swimming in a North Carolina coastal sound has been found by a commercial fisherman.

Chief Deputy Sandy Casey of the Currituck County Sheriff's Office said that the body of Leah Kathleen Bland, 26, of Greenville was found late Monday morning. She had been missing since she and another woman went swimming Saturday night in Currituck Sound.

Authorities say that the other woman swam for about an hour to catch their boat, which had blown away because it wasn't anchored.

The Coast Guard has said that alcohol was a factor in the death.
