Suspect in attempted murder-suicide dies

BOONE – A suspect in an attempted murder-suicide during a domestic dispute in Watauga County on Thursday has died, according to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.

John Finley Greene shot Kimberly Greene with a rifle and then shot himself, authorities said. Both lived at 480 Diamond Ranch Road. The sheriff's report did not say what their relationship is.

The sheriff's office said it was informed this morning that Johnny Greene had died at Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee. Greene shot himself in the chest Thursday evening, according to the sheriff's office. It was not clear when he died. Hospital officials said they could not comment.

Kimberly Greene remained at Johnson City Medical Center today in serious condition. She had been shot in the abdomen.

A 911 call at 6:22 p.m. Thursday reported a domestic dispute at the house. Officers were on the way when another call reported that two people had been shot.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the two people wounded.

On Friday, authorities issued a warrant charging John Finley Greene with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. The warrant was returned unserved.
