Clemmons invites public to give ideas
It is working to craft a blueprint for future

Officials with the village of Clemmons are hoping that free food, door prizes and a chance to shoot baskets with former Wake Forest star Rusty LaRue will entice people to attend a community forum on Thursday and offer their input on the village's future.
The village is in the beginning stages of an 18-month process to develop a comprehensive plan that will serve as a blueprint for its future.
A 10-member steering committee appointed by the village council has been meeting since early fall to help get the plan rolling. Clarion Associates, a consulting company based in Chapel Hill, was hired in October to help develop and implement parts of the plan.
On Thursday, Clemmons residents will be asked to weigh in on a range of issues that the plan will ultimately include, such as economic development, housing, public transportation, parks and recreation and arts and culture, said Megan Ledbetter, the town's planner
Participants will break into small groups to discuss these topics.
Gary Looper, the village's manager, said that the information gathered from the community forum will help the steering committee shape the comprehensive plan.
The public input is crucial to the plan's success, Looper said.
"The council has stressed time and time again from the onset that it wanted to maximize participation from the community," he said. "That's not to minimize the steering committee's function at all. They're a vital part of it, but the success of the plan is only as good as the community's input."
The village hopes to have a series of forums as the plan develops.
Thursday's forum will be at River Oaks Community Church on Lewisville-Clemmons Road.
A meet-and-greet session with refreshments will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a discussion on the village's future at 7 p.m. It will last for two hours.
Members of the village council will attend the forum as observers, Looper said.
