Music Briefs: Percussionists to play new work by student

The Philidor Percussion Group will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Watson Hall at the UNC School of the Arts. The program, titled Old School, New School, will include the premiere of Atmosfouric by a UNCSA student composer, Michael Ahrens.

Tickets are $12, $10 for seniors and students.

‘Songs for All Seasons' coming up at UNCSA

The UNC School of the Arts will present "Songs for All Seasons" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Watson Hall on campus. The program will include music of Berlioz, Britten and Wolff as well as two premieres, The Best Season by instructor Lawrence Dillon, and An Autumn Evening by Jeremy Phillips, a UNCSA student.

Mezzo-soprano Janine Hawley, tenor Glenn Siebert and pianist Allison Gagnon will perform.

Flute-piano program to be at Shallowford

The Shallowford Series will open its 2009 season with a program of music for flute and piano at 3 p.m. next Sunday at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 1200 Lewisville-Clemmons Road. The program includes music by J.S. Bach, Ibert, Jolivet, Gaubert and Doppler.

Performing will be flutists Kristen Vanderschaaf and Erika Boysen and pianist Alex Maynegre. They are students of Tadeu Coelho of the UNC School of the Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the program.
