Published: December 17, 2009

• Site, time: RBC Center, Raleigh; 7 p.m.

• Radio: WIFM 100.9, WSJS 600

• Of note: N.C. State will play its final tune-up before starting ACC play Sunday at Wake Forest and also will start one of its busiest seven-day stretches, with three games in that span. Elon will play State for only the second time since the 1927 season, and will bring back a former Wolfpack player. Justin Gainey, a four-year starter at point guard who completed his N.C. State career in 2000, is in his first season as an Elon assistant. He spent the past three seasons working for Coach Sidney Lowe at N.C. State. Nonconference visitors don't fare well in the RBC Center, where N.C. State is 81-10 against such opponents.

Milligan at ASU

• Site, time: Holmes Center, Boone; 7 p.m.

• Radio: WKBC 97.3, WBLO 790

• Of note: Appalachian State will resume play after a 10-day break for exams. The Mountaineers last played Dec. 7, winning 77-76 at Wofford. Donald Sims, a junior guard, leads the Mountaineers (5-4) in scoring with 16.9 points a game, and ASU leads all Southern Conference teams in scoring (73.4 ppg) and rebounding (36.9 rpg). Milligan, an NAIA program, is 3-7. The Buffaloes' leaders are freshman point guard Justin Sylvester (15.7 ppg) and junior forward Cordero Seymour (15.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg).

Notes

Tyler Hansbrough, a four-time first-team All-America at North Carolina, and Roy Williams, who coached UNC to NCAA Tournament titles in 2005 and 2009 and took three other teams at Kansas and UNC to Final Fours, yesterday were named the best college-basketball player and best college-basketball coach of the decade by Sports Illustrated.

Hansbrough, Jason Williams, Shane Battier and J.J. Redick (Duke) and Emeka Okafor (Connecticut) were named starters on SI's all-decade team, and UNC-Duke was selected as the best team rivalry.

An assistant prosecutor in Boone County, Mo., says that criminal charges will not be filed against Amanda Hanneman and Jessra Johnson, women's basketball players at Missouri who were accused of beating up a male cheerleader in an off-campus incident. The prosecutor cited conflicting accounts given by the players and other witnesses and also said that the cheerleader, Justin Short, didn't want to press charges.
