Wake Forest rallied from an early one-goal deficit to defeat UNC Greensboro 2-1 last night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Deacons improved to 2-0 on the season; UNC Greensboro fell to 0-1.
UNC Greensboro controlled the game early, taking the lead five minutes in. Wake Forest was able to gain control halfway through the opening 45 minutes. The Deacons tied the score in the 43rd minute and took the lead for good in the 58th.
Senior forward Kaley Fountain scored the game-winning goal, her third of the season, in the second half. Jill Hutchinson tied the game in the first half and also assisted on the game-winner.
Ally Berry also had an assist.
Wake Forest outshot UNC Greensboro 19-7, including a 9-2 edge in the second half. The Deacons had seven shots on goal, the Spartans three.
Junior goalkeeper Laura Morse picked up her second win of the season, making two saves. Kelsey Kearney suffered the loss for UNCG, making five saves.
With the game tied at one in the 58th minute, the Deacons took the lead for good when Hutchinson played a ball to Fountain on the right side of the box. Her shot went past a diving Kearney and into the lower right corner of the net.
Wake Forest will return home on Wednesday to face UNC Wilmington in a 7 p.m. start.
