WHITE PLAINS - An early morning fire Sunday in the White Plains area of north central Surry County caused extensive damage to an unoccupied double wide trailer, but there were no injuries, said an official with the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire fighters were dispatched to 173 Creed Road about 7:02 and found the fire contained in the trailer attic. They believe that the fire was started by an electrical shortage in a wire in the attic.
The fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage to the trailer, which was valued at about $100,000. There was nothing stored in side the trailer, fire fighters said.
The Ararat, South Surry and Franklin Volunteer Fire Departments assisted in the call.
