Toshiba American to open center in Mecklenburg

CHARLOTTE - Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corp. said yesterday that it will open a national project-management and engineering center in Mecklenburg County.
Toshiba America said it would spend $2.8 million on capital investments and create 194 jobs over five years. It is eligible for up to $4.9 million over nine years from the state's Job Development Investment Grant program.
The average annual wage for the jobs at the center would be $122,037, not including benefits.
Toshiba America, based in Virginia, markets and sells advanced boiling-water nuclear reactors for the U.S. market. It provides engineering, licensing, construction management, maintenance and other services for nuclear power plants.
