COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Marcus Tracy, Ike Opara, Zack Schilawski and Austin da Luz scored goals for No. 1 Wake Forest last night as the Deacons came from behind to defeat No. 2 Maryland 4-2 in an ACC game at Ludwig Field.
The Deacons (8-0, 2-0) are off to their best start in school history, topping last year's 7-0 start. They won the national championship last season.
The Terrapins (6-2, 2-1) took the lead 50 seconds into the game when Jason Herrick scored.
The Deacons tied it in the sixth minute after Tracy scored off an assist from Sam Cronin.
Casey Townsend gave the lead back to Maryland in the 29th minute, but Opara scored with 4:39 left in the first half to make it 2-2 at halftime.
Schilawski gave Wake Forest the lead for good 1:38 into the second half on an assist from da Luz. Da Luz scored the final goal for Wake Forest at 57:11 to make the score 4-2.
WFU is off until Wednesday when it plays at Elon at 7 p.m.
