A motorist on N.C. 18 near the Laurel Springs community found a missing Alleghany County boy and his mother walking along the highway a few minutes before 1 p.m. today, authorities said.
Seven-year-old Matthew James Wood and his mother, Teresa Hammond Wood, are in good condition, according to a spokeswoman for the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office.
The boy and his mother had been missing since Monday.
In an Amber Alert issued yesterday, authorities named Teresa Wood as a suspect in the boy's disappearance. The boy was last seen leaving with her at about 3 a.m. Monday from a house in the Whitehead community wrapped in a yellow blanket. He had no shoes on. And the two of them were on foot.
It is unclear whether Teresa Wood faces charges.
