Two people from Northwest North Carolina have won big prizes in the state lottery, lottery officials said yesterday.
A Winston-Salem resident won $1 million from a scratch-off "$130 Million Blockbuster" game.
The winner's name was not disclosed yesterday. It will be revealed at 3 p.m. today at the Wilco convenience store at 3715 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, where the winner bought the ticket, said Pam Walker, a spokeswoman for the N.C. Education Lottery.
Tom Shaheen, the lottery's executive director, will present the winner with a ceremonial check.
A North Wilkesboro man won $400,000 in Saturday night's Powerball drawing, lottery officials said.
Christopher Jones of North Wilkesboro had one of three tickets with numbers that matched all five balls. The normal payout is $200,000, but Jones doubled his money by playing the multiplier.
Jones said he will use some of the money for a trip that he had already planned to take in the fall, according to the N.C. Lottery. He plans to save the rest. Jones bought the winning ticket at the Holiday To Go store on Connelly Springs Road in Lenoir.
Two other winning tickets, each worth $200,000, were also drawn Saturday night. The tickets were sold in Clinton and in Raleigh. No winners have come forward for those tickets.
