Two men face robbery and kidnapping charges after an undercover Forsyth County Sheriff's deputy was beaten and robbed yesterday.
The incident started just before 5 p.m. in the 800 block of Jonestown Road, where the deputy was working undercover. The officer had arranged to meet the two suspects as part of an investigation, said Maj. Brad Stanley of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
The two men stopped the car on Beckner Street, in a neighborhood in Clemmons off Stratford Road.
The men beat the deputy with a gun, took some of his property, then drove off in his four-door Kia SUV, with the deputy still inside. The deputy, who has not been identified, was held at gunpoint as the robbers drove off, Stanley said.
Other deputies were close by and started chasing the car. The deputy was able to jump from the car early on in the chase, Stanley said. He received only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The chase went along Hanes Mall Boulevard and South Stratford Road.
Two men were taken into custody after deputies searched the Creek Ridge and Rolling Green developments. They are: Josh Armundo Drumgoole, 24, of 2396 Martin Luther King Drive in Walnut Cove, and Jamoine Lamone Nance, 21, of 100 Westmeadows Drive, Apt. H, in Winston-Salem.
Both Drumgoole and Nance are charged with first-degree kidnapping, armed robbery, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Drumgoole, who investigators identified as the driver of the car, is also charged with felony speeding to elude arrest.
Both men are being held in the Forsyth County Jail. Drumgoole is being held under a $500,000 bond, and Nance is being held under a $400,000 bond.
Stanley would not say what kind of undercover work the deputy was doing or how he was able to alert other officers to the emergency.
