Retail Notes: New store will offer N.C. items

And now there are two.
Kicks & Grins based in Winston-Salem has opened a second store in Charlotte at 2434 Park Road in the Dilworth Historic District.
The North Carolina-products store has operated in Winston-Salem since 1995, most recently at 50-C Miller St. near the Mayberry Ice Cream restaurant. The store sells items that promote North Carolina, including books, collegiate items, gift baskets and flags.
"We promote the Outer Banks all the way to the mountains," said Terry Snyder, the owner of Kicks & Grins.
Snyder said he expanded his business into Charlotte primarily because people requested a store there. "We've got a really big following," he said.
New retail space
Johnson Commercial Development, a commercial developer in Bristol, Va., is building a 7,000-square-foot retail building at 5914 University Parkway on the site where the Trido of Japan restaurant was recently demolished. Johnson's Brad Adams wouldn't say who the tenants might be but expects the building to be completed this month.
Trido of Japan has moved to 7838 North Point Blvd. in the building that once housed Bennigan's and Sports Zone Pub & Grill. The restaurant expects to reopen in two weeks.
Pronto oil service
Express Oil Change LLC based in Birmingham, Ala., is building an Express Oil Change and Service Center on Hanes Mill Road near the BB&T bank. The center is expected to open in December.
This is Express Oil's second automotive-service center in North Carolina. It opened one in Kernersville in January.
John Davis, a preconstruction manager for Express Oil, said that the company is searching for other sites in the state, including the Triad.
Furniture showroom
Furnitureland South, a home-furnishings showplace in Jamestown, just opened a 9,000-square-foot Henredon showroom, offering a full line of Henredon collections. It's one of the largest in the country.
Furnitureland designated an additional 2,200 square feet to the exclusive Barbara Barry Realized by Henredon collection.
PR out of the office
A PRstore franchise location plans to open this fall at St. George Square, a" lifestyle center" plaza under construction on Hanes Mall Boulevard beside CarMax. The store specializes in public-relations and marketing options for small businesses, including brochures and newsletters, Web sites, press-release services and media placement.
The store is owned and operated by David Phillips.
Self-serve yard
Winston-Salem is getting a Pull A Part. The self-serve yard should open at 4125 N. Patterson Ave. between Jenkins Road and Jessica Lane in November.
While Pull A Part, based in Atlanta, calls its locations do-it-yourself used auto-parts superstores, industry people tend to use such terms as self-serve salvage yards and clean junk yards.
"There's no mud and no weeds," said Dan Vickers, the yard's manager. "All the cars are set up on stands, so it's easy to get parts off of them. They are lined up in neat, pretty rows."
