Coach Dickie Cline of Glenn was asked if last night's 49-7 loss at East Forsyth was the Bobcats' worst loss in a while.
"Ever," Cline said with emphasis. "Ever. We were inept from the get-go. But I'm still not going to take anything away from East Forsyth. They have a good ballclub, a talented ballclub, a hungry ballclub."
Danny O'Brien threw four touchdown passes, including three in the first half, and receiver Ian Thompson caught three touchdown passes as East improved to 2-1.
"It was a good win," Coach Todd Willert of East said. "We played well. I was pleased with our defensive effort. Coach (Conrad) Green (East's defensive coordinator) had a great scheme for Glenn. They got their points out of the kicking game, and I wasn't too pleased with that."
The biggest play for Glenn was on the opening kickoff of the second half. Chase Ingram took the kickoff 94 yards to the East 1. After a Glenn timeout, Khiry Sutton scored on a quarterback keeper, and Cory Eubanks' extra point made it 35-7 with 11:37 left in the third quarter.
East added two touchdowns -- the first on Thompson's 27-yard catch of an O'Brien pass at the 4:17 mark of the third quarter, the second on J.B. McKeever's 5-yard run with 6:16 left in the game. On Thompson's third touchdown, he caught the pass near the 15, dodged two or three defenders and leaned the ball across the goal line as he was going down.
"We need to re-evaluate, see what we can come up with," Cline said.
East Forsyth has won two straight since an opening loss to Rocky Mount.
"That (loss to Rocky Mount) might have been a blessing in disguise," said Willert, whose Eagles will play Atkins at home next Friday.
O'Brien completed 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards, with one interception, and the Eagles rushed 40 times for 157 yards. The Eagles had 21 first downs to five for the Bobcats.
Glenn had 77 total yards, 44 passing and 33 yards on 25 rushes.
The Bobcats had no first downs in the first half, and the Eagles led 35-0 at the half.
O'Brien threw two first-quarter touchdown passes -- a 15-yarder to Josh Kellem and a 9-yarder to Thompson. He added a 4-yarder to Thompson in the second quarter. Christian Smith scored on 1- and 7-yard runs. East rushed 22 times for 73 yards, and O'Brien was 18 of 24 passing for 226 yards in the half.
Zach Boyer kicked seven extra points for East, including five in the first half.
The Eagles had 16 first-half first downs to none for the Bobcats. The first-half highlight for Glenn (0-3) was an interception by Lynwood Gillis at the Bobcats' 10 and a 38-yard return to the 48.
