PHOENIX - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said Thursday that it is expanding into Arizona with three stores in Phoenix -- the first time that it has opened three stores in one market on the same day.
Krispy Kreme re-entered Arizona, in Mesa, in May after a two-year absence.
All three Phoenix stores represent the company's new "neighborhood doughnut shops," which get fresh doughnuts delivered multiple times daily from the Mesa factory store.
Krispy Kreme has said that depending upon the success of the new store concept, it plans to roll out similar-style neighborhood doughnut shops in markets across the country, including the Triad, Charlotte and Raleigh.
