Wilkes County commissioners approve contract for new county manager

WILKESBORO - Wilkes County commissioners unanimously approved a contract tonight that sets an annual salary of $90,500 for new County Manager John Yates.
Yates had been interim county manager since May. Commissioners voted last month to offer him the job.
The new contract is retroactive to Oct. 1.
Former Wilkes County Manager Gary Page left last spring to become the Rowan County manager.
Yates, 40, was town manager of Badin in the 1990s and most recently worked on his family's cattle farm.
"We're glad to have you aboard and look forward to working with you," Wilkes County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlie Sink told Yates.
