■ Coach Bob Stoops expects No. 1 Oklahoma to be at full strength this Saturday when the Sooners face fifth-ranked Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry game.
Although defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and center Jon Cooper suffered minor injuries against Baylor, Stoops said that both could return this week to face the Longhorns -- and that the Sooners might even have injured defensive linemen Demarcus Granger and Frank Alexander back.
"Everyone practiced to some degree today, and right now our trainers are pretty optimistic and feel that everyone will be ready to play. Now, I'm not going to detail it the whole week on who is where, what percentage. I don't know how to do any of that," Stoops said after practice.
"It's their feeling today that everyone is expected to play."
McCoy was walking gingerly after injuring his toe two days earlier. He's still expected to play against the Longhorns.
"I'm good. I'm always good. You can always count on me being out there," McCoy said, playfully repeating himself to reiterate his point: "I'm good. I'm good, everybody. I'm good."
■ Coach Dennis Erickson of Arizona State said he wants to see how quarterback Rudy Carpenter's sprained left ankle responds before deciding whether he'll play at No. 8 Southern Cal on Saturday.
Carpenter was hurt in the Sun Devils' 24-14 loss at California last weekend. He has made 36 straight starts, but that streak could be in jeopardy.
"First of all, we need to get the OK from the doctor, and then see how he moves out there (in practice)," Erickson said at his weekly news conference yesterday. "I'm not going to put him on the field unless he has the mobility to be able to move and throw. He has to be pretty close to 100 percent."
If Carpenter can't play, the Sun Devils would turn to junior Danny Sullivan, who has completed 1-of-8 passes for minus-1 yard this season.
■ Tennessee's Oct. 18 home game against Mississippi State is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The athletics department announced yesterday that the game will be televised pay-per-view by VideoSeat for a second time this season.
The Vols (2-3) have won eight of nine games against the Bulldogs, including last season's 33-21 win at Starkville, Miss.
■ Coach Bo Pelini of Nebraska is telling his players to keep their cool. The Cornhuskers have committed eight personal fouls in five games -- not counting the flag Pelini got for unsportsmanlike conduct against Virginia Tech.
"When there is an either-or situation in the heat of the moment, if the situation calls for it, you have to learn to pull off of it and not take the shot. We're not always doing that," Pelini said.
Nebraska was called for two personal fouls in Saturday's 52-17 loss to Missouri and is on pace to set a school record for penalties in a season. The Huskers have been flagged 46 times for 374 yards, and their average of 74.8 penalty yards ranks 115th out of 119 Football Bowl Subdivision schools.
■ Ole Miss' upset win over Florida on the road has some believing the Gators are having problems on offense.
Coach Les Miles of LSU, however, is not one of those who hold that opinion.
"If you find any weaknesses, tell me," Miles said at his weekly media luncheon yesterday. "They don't have any weaknesses. Being ranked (No. 11) is underselling them some. It will be our strengths against their strengths."
