BOONE - Appalachian State had no trouble in its Southern Conference opener yesterday, rolling to a 47-21 victory over The Citadel.
The Mountaineers, 3-2 overall and ranked No. 2 in the Football Championship Subdivision, scored on six straight possessions and outgained the Bulldogs 363-82 in the first half on the way to a 41-7 lead.
Armanti Edwards threw a career-high four touchdown passes for the Mountaineers. He completed 14 of 18 passes for 225 yards, and also rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
Matt Cline, a sophomore from Kernersville who played high-school football at Glenn, scored his first touchdown at Appalachian on a 25-yard pass reception from Edwards
