Duke has reached into one of its favorite recruiting areas for another commitment, this one from running back Kyle Griswould of Columbus, Ga.
Griswould (5-9, 173) is the fourth Georgia high-school player in Duke's 2009 recruiting class and will join 16 other Georgians already in the program. Troy and Ball State also offered him scholarships, and Indiana was recruiting him.
Scott Newman, Griswould's coach at Shaw High School, said that Griswould wants to play for Duke's improving program and that he found the school's academic reputation appealing.
"I know that his parents are real excited about Duke," Newman said. "I don't know if the fact we're not doing well made him think he better make a decision and get somewhere. We're kind of struggling."
Griswould's mother is the principal at another Columbus high school, and his father is a police chief. Griswould, Duke's 24th commitment, can sign a binding national letter of intent in February.
Griswould has 546 yards rushing on 101 carries and 12 catches for 145 yards in five games this season. He also has scored five touchdowns.
Griswould has started at running back since he was a sophomore. He has 4.5-second speed over 40 yards and will see spot action at free safety, cornerback and outside linebacker.
"His size has hurt him (in recruiting) a little bit because of his height," Newman said. "He plays like a lot bigger person. He's one of those athletes that you can put him anywhere."
