NOMA @ Fourth and Marshall opening in October
An update to what was previously announced in Smitty’s Notes. NOMA which stands for NOrth MArshall, the street the building faces, is on track to open sometime in the middle to late October. Chris and Kathleen Barnes, owners of the popular Sixth and Vine restaurant in the Arts District, took over lease of the former Kababs space at the corner of Fourth and Marshall Streets.
NOMA will have a sleek, contemporary look and will serve upscale bar food; lunch will go for under $10 and dinner entrées will range between $9.95 and $17.95. It will seat 150 patrons.
With close to 5,400 square feet, all levels of the building will be used. The street level will be a smoking bar/lounge with flat panel televisions around the bar and each table. The upstairs will be non-smoking and will have a full service restaurant and sixteen tap bar. The room will be fitted with a projection screen to show films as has been done at Sixth and Vine this past spring and summer; there will be a midweek “Dinner and a Movie” theme night. Couches will available for lounging. Plans are to utilize the basement of the building as a Martini Lounge that will accommodate 30 patrons.
Stay tuned to the next edition for an exact opening closer to the date.

Free State Funds Available To Remove and Clean Up Unused Buried Home Heating Oil Tanks
Buried in the yards of many homes built before 1975, are heating oil tanks that are no longer in use. What once heated those homes are today an environmental hazard. Out of sight should not mean out of mind.
These home heating oil tanks have spent decades underground, subjected to nature and all its corrosive elements. Even if the tank has been filled with sand or foam and contains no oil, decades of drips, spills and overfill during tank filling may have caused soil contamination.
In addition to environmental concerns, buried oil tanks pose a financial liability. Before a home can be sold or re-financed, many mortgage companies require the tank be removed.
Luckily, there is a state fund to cover the cost of tank excavation and soil clean up. The fund has finite dollars, so if you would like to know more about this program and how to have a heating oil tank removed at no cost to you, please call Katy O’Kennedy at 336 409 6877or email kok@triad.rr.com.
