■ Panthers: Carolina signed tackle Jonathan Palmer to the practice squad yesterday to provide more depth as it struggles with injuries on the offensive line.
Fullback Billy Latsko was released from the practice squad yesterday to make room for Palmer, who was cut by the New York Giants and Cleveland in training camp.
The Panthers are expected to be without left tackle Jordan Gross for Sunday's game against Kansas City because of a concussion. Right tackle Jeff Otah is also recovering from an ankle injury, leaving Carolina short on bodies for practice.
Palmer was undrafted out of Auburn in 2007.
■ Rams: Marc Bulger is the starting quarterback for St. Louis again in one of Jim Haslett's first moves as its new coach.
Backup Trent Green started Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Scott Linehan's final game as coach.
Haslett was elevated from defensive coordinator Monday. He said that Bulger will be the starter the rest of the season.
■ Bengals: Running back Cedric Benson signed yesterday with Cincinnati.
Benson was Chicago's first-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Texas. He started 12 games for the Bears from 2005 through '07, running for 1,593 yards and 10 touchdowns. Benson was arrested in May on charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest, and again in June on a drunken-driving charge in Austin, Texas.
Two grand juries in Travis County, Texas, declined to indict Benson on the charges last week, ending the cases.
■ Ravens: Running back Willis McGahee has a rib injury and his status for the Ravens' game against the Tennessee Titans Sunday is unclear.
McGahee suffered the injury during Baltimore's loss Monday night against the Steelers.
