RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond's historic Jefferson Hotel has received AAA's five-diamond award for the 16th year.
The Jefferson is the only establishment in entral and western Virginia to receive the travel organization's highest rating for hotels and restaurants.
The Jefferson was opened in 1895 and named to the National Register of Historical Places in 1969.
Establishments evaluated by AAA are rated on a scale of one to five diamonds. AAA Mid-Atlantic said that 3 percent of the 58,000 diamond-rated lodgings and restaurants in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean are awarded five diamonds.
