No. 2 North Carolina 98, Pacific 62: Italee Lucas scored 25 points to help North Carolina rout Pacific last night in the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas.
Jessica Breland added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels (7-0), who ran out to a 47-25 halftime lead and never looked back. Heather Claytor also had 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers.
Jasmine Dana scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Pacific (1-2).
Lucas was 10-for-13 from the field as North Carolina shot 53 percent. The Tar Heels also hit 11 3-pointers and forced Pacific into 29 turnovers.
No. 12 Duke 59, Western Kentucky 56: Joy Cheek scored 12 points and Duke held off Western Kentucky last night in Bowling Green, Ky.
Cheek was in the starting lineup for Duke (4-1) after a knee injury earlier in the week sidelined regular starting point guard Jasmine Thomas.
A final 3-point attempt by WKU's Kenzie Rich as time expired fell far short of the basket.
Rich and Arnika Brown led the Hilltoppers (3-2) with 15 points each. Brown also had 13 rebounds.
The Blue Devils used a full-court press and their height advantage to force 19 turnovers in the first half, and Duke had 15 steals in the game.
No. 5 Stanford 78, No. 19 Purdue 70 (OT): Jayne Appel scored eight straight points in overtime to lift Stanford past Purdue yesterday in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic in Honolulu.
Appel finished with 26 points and 16 rebounds and Nnemkadi Ogwumike added 17 points and six rebounds for the Cardinal (4-1).
Appel also scored six straight points to tie the game 63-63 in regulation and Petersen's layin gave Stanford a 65-63 lead. But Lakisha Freeman tied it with 43 seconds remaining.
No. 6 Baylor 62, Villanova 57: Jessica Morrow scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half, and Baylor edged Villanova in the Paradise Jam at St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Rachel Allison added 16 points, and Jhasmine Player had 14 for the Bears (6-0).
Laura Kurz scored 17 points and had three blocks to lead Villanova (2-3).
No. 8 Texas A&M 61, Penn State 57: Danielle Gant scored 14 points, including two late free throws, to lift Texas A&M past Penn State in the first round of the Timeout 4 HIV/AIDS Tournament yesterday in Malibu.
Brianne O'Rourke scored on a layup with under four minutes left to give Penn State its last lead at 54-53. Gant made 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game, part of the Aggies' 8-for-12 performance from the foul line down the stretch.
Takia Starks led Texas A&M with 20 points.
No. 16 Virginia 65, Utah 57: Whitney Edwards scored 15 points to help Virginia defeat Utah in the first game of the three-day WBCA Classic yesterday in Milwaukee.
Britnee Miller scored 13 and Aisha Mohammed had 11 points for the Cavaliers (4-1), who scored the first 10 points of the second half for a 38-22 lead.
No. 17 Vanderbilt 82, Davidson 50: Hannah Tuomi had 16 points and Christina Wirth added 14 as Vanderbilt defe`ated Davidson yesterday in Nashville, Tenn.
Wirth scored seven straight first-half points, including consecutive 3-pointers, to turn a two-point lead (19-17) into a nine-point advantage (26-17). She also had five rebounds and four assists.
No. 21 Arizona State 80, Hofstra 54: Briann January scored a season-high 19 points and Dymond Simon added 15 to hel Arizona State beat Hofstra in the Junkanoo Jam yesterday in Freeport, The Bahamas.
January made all six of her field-goal attempts, including a pair of 3-pointers, and all five of her free throws for the Sun Devils (3-1), who shot 53.7 percent from the floor.
No. 22 TCU 71, Eastern Michigan 55: Helena Sverrisdottir scored 18 points and TCU recovered from its first loss of the season with a win against Eastern Michigan in the Caribbean Challenge yesterday in Cancun, Mexico.
No. 25 Iowa State 75, Prairie View A&M 59: Alison Lacey had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Iowa State past Prairie View A&M in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic yesterday in Honolulu.
Kelsey Bolte added 12 points for the Cyclones, who improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2001-02 when they won their first 12 games of the season.
No. 25 Xavier 73, Tennessee-Martin 41: Freshman guard Tyeasha Moss scored 15 points, including five in a 26-5 opening run that gave the Musketeers an insurmountable lead, as Xavier beat Tennessee-Martin last night in Cincinnati.
April Phillips had seven points and Ta'Shia Phillips had four during that surge for Xavier (4-2) in the first round of the Xavier Invitational. Ta'Shia Phillips finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in just 14 minutes.
Bowling Green 80, WSSU 43: Niki McCoy scored 20 points and had six rebounds to lead Bowling Green past Winston-Salem State yesterday afternoon at UNC Greensboro.
Tracy Pontius added 13 points and Lauren Prochaska added nine points, five rebounds and two steals for Bowling Green (3-2).
Nikki Key led the Rams (0-5) with 18 points, but was the lone player in double figures for the Rams. The Rams shot just 26 percent and had 26 turnovers.
The Rams will play Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. today at UNC Greensboro.
Florida International 58, N.C. State 42: Fanni Hutlassa and Monika Bosilj each scored 14 to lead Florida International past N.C. State last night in Miami.
Shayla Fields led State with 23 points but was the only Wolfpack player to score more than four points.
Clemson 68, Kent State 53: Lele Hardy scored a game-high 22 points, including 11 in a 24-6 second-half surge, to lead Clemson past Kent State in the opening game of the Husky Classic yesterday in Seattle.
Stefany Thomas added 12 points for Clemson.
