Greetings Again, Smittyheads,
Hard to believe but the holiday season is right around the corner. There are a number of events below you might want to get on your calendar in the coming weeks. Also, we have an update of a couple of downtown establishments opening over the the next two weeks.
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Now to the business at hand...
NOMA @ Fourth and Marshall opening Thanksgiving weekend
An update to what was previously announced in Smitty's Notes . NOMA which stands for NOrth Marshall will open Thanksgiving weekend according to Chris and Kathleen Barnes, owners of the popular Sixth and Vine restaurant in the Arts District, took over lease of the former Kababs space at the corner of Fourth and Marshall Streets.
NOMA will seat 150 patrons. With close to 5,400 square feet, all levels of the building will be used. The street level will be a smoking bar/lounge with flat panel televisions around the bar and each table. The upstairs will be non-smoking and will have a full service restaurant and sixteen tap bar. The room will be fitted with a projection screen to show films as has been done at Sixth and Vine this past spring and summer; there will be a midweek "Dinner and a Movie" theme night. Couches will available for lounging. Plans are to utilize the basement of the building as a Martini Lounge that will accommodate 30 patrons. Telephone 703-5112. NOMA was designed by Angelo Adamo Design
Bib's Downtown – A Rib Joint Opening December 1st
Bib's Downtown will be opening the first week of December for lunch only. The rib joint located at the former Firestone Tire dealership at 675 West Fifth Street, across from the Main Library branch will initially have hours Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. They are booking private parties the entire month of December. Owner Mark Little, a personal chef in Winston-Salem who has a knack for cooking on a smoker is opening what he calls an "old-school rib joint." This means serving up what he hopes are the best ribs, chicken, turkey and beef briskets slow-cooked on huge smoker that can accommodate 1,000 pounds of meat at one time.
Accompanying the meats will be an array homemade sauces and dry rubs, along with your choice of sides—baked potatoes, cole slaw and Little's own special "5-Bean" baked beans. Renovation of the 3,500-square foot space is nearly complete. Seating will be for about 70-80 and there will be three flat-panel televisions and a projector and screen.
Dinner hours will start after the New Year. The planned hours be Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The reason they call it "Bib's"? You need a bib to eat their smoke-cooked eats. I'm up for the challenge. For more information call 722-0007 or visit their web site at http://www.bibsdowntown.com
Restaurants open Thanksgiving Day
A number of people have asked about which restaurants will be open Thanksgiving Day. Many singles or couples may not be traveling for the holiday or families decide they don't want to go through the labor of cooking a big meal.
Smitty's Notes doesn't usually keep track of this type of information. However, the Winston-Salem Journal "Ask SAM" column does. To find out who is open from a recent column posting - click here. They will also run a list of the latest restaurants serving dinner in the paper on Sunday, November 23 rd and Wednesday, November 26 th the day before Thanksgiving. Hope you may find this information useful.
