MORGANTON -- Baker Furniture has eliminated 117 jobs this week at its Hildebran plant, including administrative and production workers, according to the Morganton News-Herald. It is the latest downsizing for Baker, a maker of high-end furniture, which cited the weak economy and a slowdown in orders as reasons for its decision.
In July 2007, Baker transferred the operations of its two plants in Mocksville to a newer manufacturing plant in Hildebran, partly to reduce costs.
