GREENSBORO
A Greensboro hardware store got complaints after flying the American flag upside down after the election.
Store manager Mike Naylor told the News & Record that employees at the Ace Hardware store turned the flag upside down to protest political unrest. Naylor said Election Day and Democrat Barack Obama's win had some influence in the decision.
Store owner Darrell Chambers said he was off Wednesday and said it shouldn't have been done.
Chambers says the display had nothing to do with the election and was just a protest of the economy.
Naylor later said the protest was not a political statement.
Store employees said they received angry phone calls. One customer, Louis Money, said the display was in poor taste.
The U.S. flag code says the flag should be displayed upside down only as a distress signal.
