Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines will join the company of people such as U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, the late Clarence "Big House" Gaines and former N.C. Baptist Hospitals chief Len Preslar on Tuesday, when he is given the 2008 Distinguished Citizen Award by the Old Hickory Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Forsyth County will remember its fallen officers Thursday during the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service.
The service will be at 11 a.m. at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway. It will last about an hour, and includes a roll call of fallen officers, an honor guard, a bagpiper, music and a brief message.
The annual recognition of those who have given their lives in the line of duty is held during National Law Enforcement Month, which is in May. Separately, opening ceremonies in recognition of National Law Enforcement Month will be held today at 1 p.m. at Salem Academy & College in the Fine Arts Center/Hanes Auditorium. The opening ceremonies and memorial service are both open to the public.
The traditions and music of Greece, not to mention its food, will be featured Friday through Sunday at the annual Greek Festival.
Held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, the festival includes tours of the church sanctuary, crafts and performers.
It costs $1 to attend the festival, not including food. The hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The church is off Country Club Road near Silas Creek Parkway.
